Mission: To reclaim our indigenous beauty, natural, holistic, and total beauty from the inside out. True beauty begins within, through self-awareness, self-acceptance, courage, and a positive attitude.
We are not going to begin at the beginning here with this story, that will come at another time. You know the saying, "can't see the forest for the trees?" That's the title of my (pending) book, it's been the story of my life. I actually stumbled upon this profession; I didn't have the sight to see this in front of me because of how close up on me that it was. My godmother's home was my home away from home, my sancturay. I visited her on weekends to help in her home-based salon and in her home. I also visited to get my hair done for church on Sunday. It was peaceful, relaxing and calm, a very welcomed change from my own home. This is where I played, became imaginative and creative. Those memories is how I have today stumbled upon the vision to become a hair stylist and to build my salon in the way that I have built it. Prayerfully it is as comfortable, serene and relaxing to others as her shop was to me. I consider the both of us "cutting edge" hair stylists. In her time it was press and curls, even through to the beginning of the "relaxer" era of hairstyling. It was (per say) higher ground, on the brink of, a cut above the rest in hair care, hair styling, and all over personal care. It seems paradoxical to say the same about me of natural hair care, hair that is "chemically untreated", cutting edge hair styling since it is right on top of my head. But I stumbled upon this "cutting edge" hairstyling; all because I decided to cut off the chemically treated parts of my hair that I had been wearing for many years (you know the story) and to keep out the heat of press & curling. I began to practice my niche of hairstyling and haircare, and became an interesting discovery for me and my clients. Through this practice, discoveries, research and many hours, day, weeks, months, even years was Indigenous Beauty Concepts born. I stumbled upon this name and its logo. In looking back at things that have appeared in my life and in the life of this business of hairstyling, I can say I have a knack of stumbling upon interesting discoveries in a casual manner and am still stumbling upon interesting discoveries and I pray that I always will. This is how my blessings have come and I have named this action "serendepity". Serendepity - knack of stumbling upon interesting discoveries in a casual manner.
The circular artwork of the logo represents "serendipity" a stumbling symbol.
